An Announcement from Fr. Matt Spotts, S.J.

Dear Creighton Prep Community,

I’m writing to inform you that Jim Bopp has accepted an offer to become the next principal at Brophy College Preparatory School, a Jesuit school in Phoenix at which he previously served in multiple roles. He will finish this academic year at Creighton Prep before moving to Phoenix and beginning work at Brophy this summer. A national search for his successor is underway.

In the meantime, I am pleased to announce that Joe Ryberg has accepted the role as interim principal of Creighton Prep. Mr. Ryberg has been a part of the Creighton Prep faculty and staff for 26 years, making significant contributions as a teacher and department chair, dean of students, academic principal, and as a lead supporter of faculty formation. He is an accomplished educator who understands the Creighton Prep mission. We are incredibly fortunate to have him serve in this role to guarantee that our students, families and entire Prep community experience a seamless transition and an uninterrupted, extraordinary Prep experience.

Mr. Bopp’s achievements at Prep have been remarkable. He has played a crucial role in the construction and launch of the ToMorrow Labs and has helped direct the integration of the Loyola Scholars program into the fabric of our school. He has advocated for the expansion of student activities and has advanced our student support services into a region-leading program. His steady, deliberate leadership has been nothing short of exemplary. Creighton Prep is indebted to him for his work, and I am personally grateful for all he has done for our school and our community.

The move to Brophy is an incredible opportunity for Mr. Bopp because it holds a special place in his heart and in the life of his family. He started his career as a Jesuit educator at Brophy where he served as a science teacher and department chair, the dean of students, and finally as an assistant principal. Mr. Bopp and his wife were married in Brophy’s chapel and their three children were baptized there as well. They were not looking to make a move, but when this opportunity presented itself, they decided that it was the best move for their family.

Mr. Bopp’s work has made a lasting and positive impact on Creighton Prep in ways that will continue to improve the formation of our young men for generations to come. Though we will miss Mr. Bopp’s leadership, the position of principal of Creighton Prep is an exciting and desirable opportunity, and we are confident that it will attract a deep pool of extraordinary candidates. We look forward to identifying Prep’s next academic leader and will keep our Prep community updated on the latest developments.

Yours, in Christ’s mission,

Fr. Matt Spotts, S.J.
