Creighton Prep’s Fr. Kevin Schneider, SJ, Called to New Journey

Creighton Prep’s Director of Adult Faith Formation Fr. Kevin Schneider, SJ, has accepted an invitation from the Provincial Superior of the USA Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) to be the assistant to the director at the Demontreville Jesuit Retreat House in Lake Elmo, Minn. In his new role, he will offer preaching services and provide support as a spiritual companion to retreatants. He will start his new role in September 2022.

Fr. Schneider has made incredible contributions during his nearly 23 years at Creighton Prep. In addition to being a theology teacher and theology department chair, he has served as an assistant coach for football, basketball and golf and also as an athletic chaplain, praying with a number of teams throughout the year. He spent the past eight years as the director of adult faith formation, developing spirituality programs at both Creighton Prep and Jesuit Academy. His extensive work in adult faith formation has become a model for many organizations throughout Omaha.

Deeply rooted in the Omaha community, Fr. Schneider has regularly celebrated Masses at Marian High School, Mercy High School, Duchesne Academy and Preschool of the Sacred Heart, Essential Pregnancy Services and Bethlehem House. He has been actively involved in retreats and parish missions throughout eastern Nebraska and also offered days of reflection and recollection to organizations where he volunteered his time. He regularly met with individuals and groups who desired to grow in prayer and discipleship. In all of the many places he’s served in Omaha, Fr. Schneider has been widely known for his warmth, humor, approachability, and deep commitment to prayer and spiritual formation.

Fr. Schneider sits on the board of directors of Ignatian Volunteer Corps, Jesuit Academy (where he also served as a spiritual support person) and Mercy High School.

“The Creighton Prep and Omaha communities have helped me grow as a Jesuit and as a priest,” said Fr. Schneider. “I am filled with gratitude for what I have learned and shared with so many. Let us continue to find God in all things together, for others.”

Creighton Prep President Fr. Matt Spotts, SJ, said, “It’s hard to overstate the impact that Fr. Schneider has made on our community. It’ll be difficult for many of us to imagine the start of a new school year without his warm, welcoming presence moving through the halls and greeting students and colleagues. However, those of us who have benefited from his preaching, spiritual conversation, and love of Ignatian Spirituality can easily imagine how valuable his gifts and talents will be in retreat ministry at Demontreville.”

Creighton Prep is planning an event to offer the community a chance to say farewell and thank Fr. Schneider for his service. More information on the event will be communicated soon.
