Mid-Quarter Progress Reports Available on Monday, September 16

Late in the day on Monday, you will find mid-quarter progress reports available through PowerSchool. To check these reports.

  • Log in to PowerSchool.
  • Click on Grade History at left.
  • You will see a grade, an effort grade and possibly other comments from teachers

If you have questions or concerns about grades, please contact your son’s teacher.

PowerSchool and Canvas are excellent resources for monitoring student progress. Creighton Prep expects that parents are using these tools for this purpose. 

You can view your son’s grades at any time from the Grades and Attendance page in PowerSchool. Click on the actual grade for a breakdown of assignments. Canvas serves as a resource for what is going on in class. 

 

Prep Student From China Needs New Host Prep Family

Ethan is a current junior at Prep and is in need of a new host Prep family. His current host family is just very busy with smaller children, so he would like to find an environment that is more conducive to studying. 

Ethan enjoys studying science, playing sports and taking outdoor photos. You can find out more about him here

Paying for Breakfast and After School Snacks

Did you know that breakfast and after school snacks are available to your son at Prep? Breakfast is served from 7-8:15 a.m. and after school snacks from 2:45-3:10 p.m. Students can pay cash for them at the point of sale or you can create and fund a MySchoolAccount they can use.

 

Letter Sweaters Can Be Ordered Until Tuesday, September 17

The price is $50 and samples are in the Jay Mart now.

  • White sweaters for students with state honors in a varsity NSAA sport or activity or an approved club sport
  • Blue sweaters for students who have lettered in those sports or activities
  • Dress-code approved
  • Can be worn on formal dress days
  • Sleeve chevrons to note successive years of participation: an additional $10.

2019 Yearbooks Ready For The Class of 2019

The Jay Junior 2019 yearbook is ready for pickup in the High School Office by members of the Class of 2019 or their parents. The HSO is located inside the Administration entrance from the east parking lot. 

 

Volunteer Opportunities

 

Help with Preptoberfest on Saturday, September 21

Preptoberfest, a celebration of all things Prep, will take place next Saturday from 5-9 p.m., and we need parent volunteers to sign up to help before, during and after the event.

Volunteer for BASH 2020

Commit today to be one of the 500 volunteers who will make our 50th BASH fundraiser a success on Saturday, April 25 for the students who rely on financial assistance to attend Prep. 

Soon, we’ll need lots of parents to help with acquiring auction items. Later in January, to sell raffle tickets, help with decorations and write descriptions for the catalog. In late April, to set up auction items, serve drinks at the event, and help with tear-down and cleanup

This is a great way to give back to Prep and meet great people!

 

Tutors Needed at Jesuit Academy

Campus Ministry is looking for Prep students who would like to tutor at Jesuit Academy on Monday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. If your son would like to participate, please contact Dave Lawler in the Campus Ministry Office.

 

Upcoming Events

 

College Admissions Counselors at Prep – September 16-19

Juniors and seniors interested in attending these visits need to notify their teachers in advance that they will be missing class. They are responsible for the material covered while they are away from class.

All meetings will be held in the office of Director of College Counseling Christianne Clark unless otherwise noted. She will give students a pass at the end of each visit to return to class. Seniors attending meetings over their lunch break can bring their lunch to Mrs. Clark’s office.

Jr. Jays 12th Man Club Meetings – September 18 and October 22

Fathers of current student-athletes in the Prep football program and Prep alumni are invited to the Jr. Jays 12th Man Club meetings next Wednesday and Tuesday, October 22 

  • Cunningham’s Pub and Grill at 10904 West Dodge Road 
  • Social at 6 p.m., remarks at 7 p.m. by Coach Tim Johnk
  • $20 for two meetings. Includes appetizers and a beverage ticket
  • Menu and a cash bar available

Coffee and Conversation for Senior Parents – Thursday, September 19

The Counseling Office will be sponsoring Coffee and Conversation for Senior Parents in the Carta Hall of Fame Room next Thursday from 6-7 p.m.

Counselors will be present to answer any questions you have about the college application process, college scholarships or paying for college.

 

Freshman/Big Brother Service Day – Friday, September 20

The first of two Freshman/Big Brother service days will take place next Friday. The students participating have been emailed their service sites assignments. 

The big brothers will provide transportation that day. At 9 a.m.at Prep, they and the freshmen will enjoy donuts, juice and a short prayer service. They will travel to service sites in Omaha to volunteer from 10-11:30 a.m. then to lunch. Freshmen should bring money for lunch. Dress code is blue-white.

If you have any questions, please contact Dave Lawler. Those not assigned to the September 20 service day will participate on November 8.    

 

Preptoberfest – Saturday, September 21

The Prep community is invited to a celebration of all things Prep at our second annual Preptoberfest! Admission is free and please register to help us plan for the crowd. Attendees must be 21 or older.

  • Mass at 4 p.m. in the Skinner Chapel
  • 5-9 p.m. celebration in the west parking lot
  • Food, beer and wine, and, by special arrangement, music by Omaha's own Billy McGuigan and his band!
    • Food trucks 5-8:30 p.m.
    • Billy plays 6-8:30 p.m.
  • Get a Preptoberfest pint mug for $25 or purchase individual drink tickets.

Sports Night Featuring George Brett – Tuesday, September 24

Join us in the Heider Center when the school welcomes legendary Kansas City Royals third baseman and National Baseball Hall of Famer George Brett as the featured speaker for the 28th Annual Sports Night.

Evening program

  • 5:30 p.m. – Social, silent auction and BBQ dinner
  • 7 p.m. – Oral auction
  • 7:15 p.m. – Program featuring George Brett

Tickets

  • Individual tickets: $75 - $60 tax deductible
  • Table of 10: $700 - $550 tax deductible
  • Sponsor table: $1,000 - $850 tax deductible
    • One person from each sponsor table is invited to a private cocktail reception with George Brett and will receive a gift and preferred seating for the table at Sports Night.

Attire for the evening is business casual, and parking will be available in both the east and west lots. You may also park in the Hillside Elementary School lot west of Prep.

Omaha National College Fair – Sunday, October 13

The National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) will be hosting the Omaha National College Fair at the CHI Health Center in downtown Omaha from 1-4 p.m. Admission is free.

Mother-Son Mass and Breakfast – Sunday, October 20

Prep mothers, register now for the annual Mother-Son Mass and Breakfast. This special occasion is for mothers and sons of the Prep community, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, and the Mass will be concelebrated by members of Prep's Jesuit community. The cost is $22 per person.

We’d like to have all Prep mothers and sons there, especially the members of the Class of 2023. Of particular concern to us is the student who may not have a mother at home. We encourage him to come with a sister, aunt, grandmother or another student and his mother.

Loyola Dinner of Honor and Distinction – Wednesday, October 23

Celebrate with the Prep community at the 2019 Loyola Dinner of Honor and Distinction. On that night, the following will be honored in the Sullivan Center:

  • Sword of St. Ignatius – Cardinal Blase J. Cupich
  • Alumnus of the Year – Patrick J. Duffy ‘90
  • Ancilla Domini – Karen Van Dyke
  • Hall of Fame – Robert J. “Bob” Carlisle ‘76

$60 per person. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

Ten Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Congratulations to the following students on being named Semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Competition. According to the program website, approximately 1 percent of the 1.6 million students involved in the competition are named Semifinalists.
