Freshman/Big Brother Service Days

All freshmen and senior big brothers are required to participate in one of two service days this semester: Friday, September 20 or Friday, November 8. Dave Lawler, Prep’s service coordinator, is meeting with all of the freshmen and big brothers during Community Period on Tuesday, August 27 to let them know which day they have been assigned and to share information about the service days.

On those days, the senior big brothers will pick up their freshmen little brothers in the morning, take them to Prep then to the service sites and lunch, and drop them off at home at the end of the day. At 9 a.m.at Prep, they will enjoy donuts, juice and a short prayer service. They will travel to service sites in Omaha to volunteer from 10-11:30 a.m. then to lunch. Freshmen should bring money for lunch.

If there are any conflicts or questions, please email Dave Lawler or call him at 402-393-1190.

Volunteer Opportunities

Help with Preptoberfest on Saturday, September 21

Preptoberfest, a celebration of all things Prep including Reunion Weekend, will take place on Saturday, September 21 from 4:30 to 10 p.m., and we need parent volunteers to sign up to help before, during and after the event. From working the ID and wristband station to stocking and serving beverages, there’s a way for you to get involved!

If you have any questions or need more information, please email Amy Knight or call her at 402-393-1190.

Your Time and Talent Needed on BASH 2020

Commit today to be one of the 500 volunteers who will make BASH 2020 on Saturday, April 25 a success for the many hundreds of students who rely on financial assistance to attend Prep. Not only will it be our largest fundraiser of the school year, BASH 2020 will be the 50th consecutive BASH!

Starting soon, we’ll need lots of parents to help with acquiring auction items. Later on in January, to sell raffle tickets, help with decorations and write descriptions for the catalog. Setting up auction items in the Heider Center in late April, working on the social committee at the event, and assisting with tear-down and cleanup will be important, too.

Volunteering for BASH is a great way to give back to Prep and meet great people!

Student Leaders Needed for Youth Frontiers Retreats on Wednesday, September 18

On Wednesday, Sept. 18, St. Margaret Mary’s School is hosting a 5th Grade Youth Frontiers Kindness Retreat and the Catholic Schools Consortium is hosting a 7th Grade Youth Frontiers Courage Retreat. Both St. Margaret Mary’s and the Catholic Schools Consortium have asked for Prep students to act as leaders for these retreats.

If your son is interested in being a leader, please have him contact Dave Lawler in the Campus Ministry Office. These retreats take place during the school day, so volunteers will need to complete a Planned Absence Form in order to participate.

Donate Belts and Dress Shoes for Student Use

The Dean’s Office is welcoming donations of belts and dress shoes (any size) to have on hand for student use. To donate, enter the building through the Administration entrance from the east parking lot, and sign in at the switchboard. The receptionist will direct you to the Dean’s Office. Thank you!

Volunteer in the Prep Moms Organization

Dear Prep Parents and Guardians,

Did you know that mothers, fathers and guardians become members of the Prep Moms organization when their young men register at Prep? It's true! Volunteering on Prep Moms committees is a super way for you, grandparents and friends of Prep to get involved at the school, work alongside great people and help make Prep events successful.

When the committees in which you express interest need volunteers, you will receive an email directing you to a page where you can sign up for specific tasks.

Please also plan to attend any or all of our five meetings scheduled for the school year. At the meetings, we will discuss group business and host a featured speaker such as Head of School Jim Bopp or President Fr. Tom Neitzke, SJ. Our first one is Tuesday, September 3 at 7 p.m. in the Carta Hall of Fame Room.

I look forward to serving as your Prep Moms President this year! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Lisa Gravelle

Prep Moms President, 2019-2020
