Dear Creighton Prep Community,
I’m reaching out today to ask for your support.
Many of you know Fr. Damian Czerniak, S.J., a Jesuit who was a beloved member of Creighton Prep’s faculty for three years from 2018 to 2021. Fr. Damian recently returned to his home country of Poland and is now living in Gdynia. In light of the recent crisis in Ukraine, Fr. Damian’s provincial superior has missioned him to take a leading role with Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Poland. For more than 40 years, JRS has served as an international Catholic organization with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate for the rights of refugees and others who are forcibly displaced.
His current mission is to organize support for Ukrainian refugees entering at the border. Shelter, food, medical supplies, child care, school placement for children, transportation, jobs, psychological and spiritual support and long term care are just a few of the needs that he is facilitating for Ukrainian refugees. In addition, food and medical supplies are being coordinated for those who have stayed in the Ukraine to fight the war.
Fr. Damian recorded a video for the Creighton Prep community, and you can view it below.
To streamline the process of getting funds where they are most urgently needed, the USA Midwest Province Jesuits have set up a way to donate monetary gifts to the Polish Jesuits. They will route the funds to JRS Poland, where Fr. Damian is helping to coordinate relief efforts. 100% of the proceeds will go to support the Ukrainian refugees.
You may use a credit card to donate here or send a check made payable to "The Jesuits" to this address:USA Midwest Jesuits P.O. Box 6713 Carol Stream, IL 60197-6713 *Gift Designation: Ukrainian Refugees
If you would like to donate through a foundation or another method that does not involve a standard credit card or check, please contact:
Lord Jesus, your Holy Family shielded you from Herod’s violence by fleeing from their homeland. Protect all those who seek refuge from violence, and let them find signs of your love in the welcome, comfort, and care of those who receive them.
In Christ’s Mission,
Fr. Matt Spotts, S.J.
