Protecting Students

Employee and Volunteer Standards

In accord with the spirit of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, and in accord with the guidance from the Archdiocese of Omaha and the USA Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus, Creighton Prep, with the support and consent of the Governing Board, has implemented a policy that all current and future employees and volunteers who have contact with students shall undergo background screening.

Employee and Volunteer Screen
  1. All current and future employees and volunteers who have contact with students must submit their approval for a background check by registering on the Catholic Mutual Group (CMG) website. Background checks are performed by Selection.com.
  2. All employees and volunteers who have contact with children in the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Omaha must receive the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training provided by the Archdiocese of Omaha prior to having contact with children in the schools. Additionally, all Jesuit employees are accredited by Praesidium.
  3. After the initial background screening and Safe Environment certification are complete, background checks are automatically repeated regularly.
Mandated Reporters

All employees of Creighton Prep are “mandated reporters” pursuant to Nebraska state law. When any school employee has reasonable cause to believe that a child, incompetent, or disabled person has been subjected to abuse or neglect, or observes such person being subject to conditions or circumstances which reasonably would result in abuse or neglect, he or she must report such incident or cause a report to be made to the Omaha Police Department or the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Adult & Child Abuse & Neglect Hotline at 1-800-652-1999.

Boundaries Education for Employees

Creighton Prep requires orientation and ongoing training for our workforce through the Archdiocese of Omaha Safe Environment Training, the National Catholic Retention Group's program that thoroughly addresses the issues of boundaries between adults and students.

Standards for Faculty and Staff Interaction with Students

Creighton Prep’s “Statement of Mission and Policies for Faculty and Staff” outlines appropriate boundaries and interaction with students under the categories of general conduct, physical contact, discipline, communications, off-campus interactions, and enforcement of the standards. All Creighton Prep employees are required to sign an agreement indicating that they have read this document and are in compliance with all of its provisions.
